TCA Region II and other selected tournaments

Follow the link above to see tournaments that are available in this area. The Regular Tournaments link goes to a listing of tournaments that award cash prizes to the winning participants. These tournaments are mostly attended by adults, although many youth players do attend also. The competition is at a much higher level then that seen at Scholastic tournaments and the rules of chess are enforced appropriately. Beginning chess players should closely observe the challenges offered by each section of these tournaments before entering so that you play against other players of a similar, or slightly better, skill level; hence, you will have a more entertaining experience. The Scholastic Tournaments link goes to a listing of tournaments that award trophies to the winning participants. They are usually limited to players attending schools: public, private, or home-schools. These are good entry-level tournaments for beginning players. Commonly, sections are based on skill level or grade level. Use of notation and clocks are encouraged but not always strictly enforced. The Non-Rated Tournaments link goes to a listing of tournaments not requiring membership from the United States Chess Federation, Texas Chess Association, or other chess organization, but still have the competitive spirit at a low entry fee. |
